Search for an Amazon tour out of Puerto Maldonado and you are told the reserve entrance costs a flat $20. SERNANP, the agency that runs Tambopata, charges S/ 30 for one day, S/ 60 for two or three and S/ 150 for four or more, roughly $8, $16 and $40. You are told you have a 40 to 60 percent chance of seeing giant otters, a figure with no source behind it. You are pointed at tours that were withdrawn from sale months ago.
None of that is hidden. It is in SERNANP's own tariff, in the operators' small print and in the listings themselves. Putting it next to the price is the whole job of this site.

Where an operator states something awkward about its own tour, that the lake is not a zoo, that the group cap is thirty, that the booking is non-refundable, we quote it rather than smooth it over.
What we cannot verify
We have not audited any lodge, walked every trail or counted the otters. We cannot confirm that a community visit pays the community, that a group cap is respected on the day, or that a clay lick will perform on the morning you are there. Where a claim rests only on the operator's word, the page says so.
Wildlife is never promised here. The forest is not a schedule, and any site that gives you a percentage chance of an animal is making it up.
